Hair rinses
Chamomile, brightens fair hair
Rosemary control greasy hair
Sage darkens gray hair
In a saucepan boil 5 cups water to 1 cup chamomile flowers/rosemary tips/ or sage flowers.
Simmer for a few minutes, then cool (allow Sage to stand at least 3 hours)
Strain and bottle
After shampooing rinse hair clean. Then rinse with herbal mixture. Always use old towel to protect hair or towel dry as sage esp will stain.
Soaps
How to make a basic soap.
Take a generic unscented bar of soap and shave / grate
40 oz / 1 cup grated soap
place in heatproof nonmetallic container and add ¼ cup (2 fl oz) hot water and 1 tablespoon almond oil: wait until it is cool enough to handle and mix (knead ) with hands. If soap floats on water add more soap. Leave 10 mins mixing occasionally until mix is soft and mushy but not watery.( If it hardens, pop bowl into saucepan of hot water and heat until soap mix softens. ) Add dry ingredients, and leave to cool then add Essential oils….if you add essential oils when hot it will evaporate the oils.
So soap is still pliable, but cool, and you have added any dry or oil ingredients…now blend them really well and divide into balls squeezing these balls hard to remove exess water and tie in cheese-clothe hang in warm dry place ‘til hard (or place between sheets of waxed paper and leave to dry and harden
What oils to use :
Any of the following, 2-4 drops :
Frankincense, jasmine, cinnamon, myrhh, bay, neroli, ylang ylang, ginger, rose, teatree, rosemary, grapefruit oil, pine, peppermint, sandalwood, geranium, lavender, patchouli, lemongrass are excellent in soaps although any really can be used.
Dry ingredients:
Lavender flowers, rosemary leaves, jasmine flowers, rose petals, honey, thyme, dried basil leaves, rolled oats (oatmeal)
The best thing is one can make purely cosmetic soaps e.g. rose for complexion, lemongrass and feverfew to fade blemishes: medicinal e.g. honey, thyme (1 teaspoon each) 4 drops teatree oil and 2 drops myrhh oil) is a great antiseptic soap or magical e.g. wisteria leaves dried, lavender and rosemary oil (3 drops each) for aiding divination.
