Polytunnels, great alternative to plant houses and greenhouses BUT many councils in the UK now insist on planning permission before they are erected. Great little money spinner that! They are now deemed to be a permanent building. www.cpre.org.uk/news/view/351A bit annoying really as polytunnels and polysheets are a great environmentally friendly way of improving crops, many farmers using polymesh sheets to cut down the use of chemical pesticides. Even those are now under fire from the CPRE. A bit of advice to CPRE and ramblers and eco-facists...you can't have it both ways!

there was a story about a bloke in sussex who had complaints about his polytunnels, which i must add i thought wasnt a problem, so much so i wrote a letter about the subject. people seem to have a problem with them, why, your guess is as good as mine. i think its a great way of growing food for this country. and in truth i think councils should incourage them. lie you said the council only cares about how much money they can make, you have to have planning permission for a bloody tree house as well. what cracks me up is this, there are more rules and rugulations about ploy tunnels than, developments of housings estates. again its the small man that gets it in the neck.

Easy answer. Put on an Irish accent and say you are a traveller and if you get any more hassle, you'll ask your friends to come and visit. Or say you wanted a polytunnel mosque for 'cultural reasons' You watch the council backpeddaling then. ;D Mick.

Polytunnels are a fruit and veg producers best friend, allowing crops to be started with a greater degree of protection than if planted straight into soil. Councils should not insist on planning permission for these as they are as temporary as a greenhouse. Keep the UK growing it's own food!
