before we had the new chicken run built in the field, we used to keep them in a run behind the animal shed, they used to be pig stys. it was a good idea for a while, ok try 30 years, but now it got to the stage where it was far to close to the woods to be safe, being near a building, we tended to get rats and other vermin, which just dug holes everywhere.we are going to just extend the shit file, which is right next door to it.
now im having a fun time removing that old chicken run, its over grown with skiey and stinging plants that dont help, neither do the holes my dog had dug.
and did we build that thing to last.
anyone who keep hens knows the best way to keep them out is to bury the wire in the earth, so they cant dig under it, not only did we do that, but we nailed corragated iron to the bottom and buried that half way down to, what a job i have got.
ive cut the wire at the top, its basically a wire shell, about 16 ft square with a 6 ft wire fence surronding it.
anyway i have removed the top chicken wire, cut it off so to speak, which is why i now have 100 blisters on my hands. I always get blisters when i use cutting tools.
then i fell down a hole and got an arm full of nettle rash, i do believe that young shoot hurts more than the older shoots.
then the wire decided to flick back and me and ive got about 4 deep wire cuts on my arms ;D
but you just keep on going dont you.
so there i am bleeding all over the place and falling down holes, determined to get at least the top wire off. which i did.
now is the hard bit, we have to dig the rest of the wire and iron out, what fun ;D
and people say i dont exercise enough.
makes me laugh when they say that, you should join a gym. i would be to bloody knackered to join a gym after hefting hay bales all over the place.
