By rights this forum should have a warning, because so much of what is edible looks to all intents and purposes like something that could kill you, especially when it comes to mushrooms.
So advice is thus get a good book that tells you what you can eat such as cook on the wildside - good recipes good instructions but the pictures are a bit crappy (available from River Cottage) the other one to look at is Richard Mabey's Food for Free. There are a thousand courses you can go on these days, but it largely comes down to the skill of the bod in charge. If you want to go down the self taught line, the other books to get are good plant id books. Mushrooms are hard, but with a bit of time and a lot of not earing what you find until you are 150% sure and even then be careful!

or just get people you dont like to taste the things first, then if they drop dead you know its poisen
