all good gardeners have freinds, and even those who grow their own veg know that attracting wildlife to their garden can benifit thire own way of life.
i attract wildlife to my garden, one because i love wildlife and 2 because it helps make my life easier when gardeing.
here is a list that i have made of plants that attract wildlife to your garden. though i must stress that just because you grow it, it doesnt mean they will come.
Alder Seeds attract finches such as Redpolls, Siskins and also tits.
Ash Seeds are food source for Bullfinches. and some types of moth
Blackthorn Flowers are a nectar source for spring butterflies.
Cherry (Wild) Fruits eaten by numerous bird species. Bird cherry is a nectar source for insects.
Crab apple Fruits are food sources for birds and small mammals. Supports many insect species.
Field maple is a food source for bees.
Hawthorn Berries are vital winter food for birds, especially Redwings, Fieldfares and Waxwings. Supports many insects and an important nectar source early in the year.
Hazel Nuts are a food source for mammals and birds. Foliage is food for moths and other insects.
Oak trees can support over 300 species of insects, therefore good habitats for insect-eating birds such as Woodpeckers, Tree creepers and Nuthatches. Acorns are food for small mammals and the leaves are larval food sources for butterflies and many moth species.
Rowan have food for birds, especially Starlings, Blackbirds and Thrushes. which hlep to keep vegi critter away, on a personal note we have rowan trees near our vegi garden and dont suffer from many pests.

Sweet chestnut nuts are eaten by mammals including squirrels. which i dont grow but those bloody squrrels still blooming come ;D
Wild rose species hips are a food source for birds and small mammals and dazza.

Buddleia food source for butterflies and bumblebees, honey bees and hornets.

Grass species Grasses are a larval food source for many butterflies, including Meadow Brown, Hedge Brown, Small Heath, Small Skipper and Speckled Wood. The Large Skipper and Wall prefer coarse grasses.
