Decided to put some runner beans in at the back of the vege patch. They don't take up much room and will help with the soil.
Any suggestions on varieties to use. Again...we grew them at home, but I never took any notice of what they were called, as by that point nan and grandad harvest of the previous years crops.
It was my job to sprout the beans when I was older!! Cos I adapted the school way of kitchen roll and a jam jar!

Enorma and streamline are the two I grow, but you can get them with many different coloured flowers so they look pretty too. I have seen white, red and pink flowers. I have some spare from this years planting, I have streamline and enorma, do you want a few?

I remember us growing ones with red AND white flowers. Obviously they were two different varieties but at that age I was more concerned about dodging bees whilst harvesting them and how good they tasted.
We just been offered a load of seedlings from psychonauts mate at work! We may have more of a veg patch than we had planned for this year including TOMATOES!

Scarlet Emperor are good if you pick them young. Any old ones you miss that are hiding behind the leaves, can be quite stringy and tough. I'm not growing runners this year. I'm going to try growing climbing French beans. (bloody french!) ;D
